Osaka Sushi Bar
Osaka Sushi Bar in Stoney Run Shopping Center in Newport News was a nice surprise. My husband and I went on a week night and they weren’t busy at all. It was just us and one more couple. The atmosphere was nice thought not overly Asian themed. They don’t have an overwhelming selection of vegetarian options but I like how they label their rolls as “c” for cooked, “u” for uncooked, and “v” for veggie. Be sure to not confuse the U’s for V’s. The best veggie roll that I’ve tried there is the cucumber avocado roll. It had roasted sesame seeds around the rice that really added to the flavor. It was delicious! The service was quick and friendly and the price was just right ($3.50 for the cucumber/avocado roll). I will definitely go back.

I have obviously been on a Thai kick lately with all these Thai reviews
For Valentine’s, my fiancé and I decided to go out to eat on Friday (so we wouldn’t have to wait so long on Saturday). We chose Gah Bua Kham in Hampton. I never knew about this place until recently after doing a seach for Thai places in Hampton Roads. It’s tucked into a small shopping center at the corner of Executive Drive and Hardy Cash Road (near the Coliseum area).
When we got there, we were surprised to see that there was a wait. It was about 20 mins but felt longer since we waited outside. It’s a small place so we didn’t want to crowd the inside. Because it was so busy, we thought the food must be really good…

We stopped by Thaijindesu in Port Warwick after an afternoon at the Starving Artist Studio (very cool place to paint your own pottery). Thaijindesu serves both Thai and Japanese food.
We came in at around 4 which is very early dinner and they weren’t busy at all. They greeted us and sat us at a nice table. The atmosphere is modern with an Asian feel. Click here to read more »

This was my first time here. I went for Chinese New Year and Jow Ga Kung Fu did the Dragon Dance, Lion Dance, and demonstration. It was very fun. The food was great. I ordered Curry Tofu. The tofu was fried just right and the curry sauce was excellent. Not too spicy and a hint of sweetness. For dessert I would definitely recommend you try the Chinese Donuts. They were fresh out the oven and melted in my mouth. They weren’t loaded in sugar, like other places. They used a good amount of powdered sugar, just enough to add extra sweetness. The staff was very friendly and easy to talk to granted it was a full house due to the Chinese New Year celebration. If I had one recommendation to them, it would be to update the decor. Other than that, everything was excellent. I would definitely go there again. They have more vegetarian food to try!

Krungthai Street Grill is a nice little restaurant located off of N. King Street in Hampton. The atmosphere was nice. The staff was friendly. Food was good but very spicy. I ordered the Drunken Noodle with Tofu. The food prices were fair. I would come here again and recommend anyone to try it.

Mama Lina's - Newport News, VA
Date: October 3, 2008
Time: Approx 7:30pm
I had great expectations for Mama Linas since I read a review of someone on the southside traveling to the peninsula just to eat there. I was craving Italian so I thought – perfect time to try them out. BIG MISTAKE.
We came in and ordered without much trouble. The problems started AFTER ordering. Click here to read more »

Forbidden City - Virginia Beach, VA
Forbidden City in Virginia Beach is by no way forbidden for Vegetarians. They have a nice selection of vegetarian dim sum and vegetarian entrees such as General’s Tofu, Ma Po Tofu, and Sesame Tofu.
We came during lunchtime on a Saturday and it wasn’t very busy at all. The atmosphere is nice and the booths are very private with curtains draped at the ends. Click here to read more »

We went to Kotobuki Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar on a Sunday night and they were not busy at all. We walked in and were greeted and sat down right away. The atmosphere is Asian/Modern. After ordering our drinks, we were ready to order right away. They have an extensive vegetarian menu for a Japanese restaurant. To name a few: Vegetarian Shrimp Tempura, Vegetarian Salmon Roll, Vegetarian Lobster Roll, Vegetarian Ham, and Vegetarian Chicken Teriyaki. Click here to read more »

Fun place for drinks and hanging out, but not for dinner. The atmosphere was packed, loud and full of energy. We did not have the full attention of a server and had to go to the bar to order items. They did have vegetarian items as well as non-vegetarian items that were easily converted if you wanted to get something to eat.

Pop’s is sooo good! The atmosphere is diner style. It’s very clean. The service is excellent and the breakfast is the best in the area that I’ve been to. The only down side is that it is small and you may have to wait to be seated, but it’s worth the wait.
